ABOUT THIS PIANO COURSEThe comprehensive piano course with Instructor Suzan Pleva consists of 8 total classes. There will be two classes held a week. Each class will progress in educating the students about fundamental music theory, and how to play the piano. The full comprehensive course will teach the basics of knowing the instrument of piano, familiarizing the students with the grand staff, sight reading music (both treble and bass clef), learning proper music notation, rhythmic ability, tempo and knowledge, basic music history, scale and chord approach, and piano playing.

COURSE 1: Learning About the Instrument
The instrument, piano will be introduced to the students. They will learn about the musical alphabet, the order in which the keys on the piano are laid out, the history behind the creation of the instrument, and learn about how to place their hands on the piano for proper placement to play the instrument. COURSE 2: Introducing the Grand Staff The students will be introduced to the grand staff, both treble and bass clefs, and how to navigate through how things are assigned on the staff and how it correlates to the keys on the piano. COURSE 3: Introduction to Music Notation Important music symbols and music notation will be taught in order for the students to know and understand key things to make certain inflections on the music that they will be playing on the piano. COURSE 4: Learning Scales and Chords The students will learn scale patterns, and apply them to the piano by playing them. From the scales that they learn, they will then be taught how to create a proper chord from a classical music scale. They will then learn how scales and chords correlate to sight reading in key signatures on the grand staff. |
COURSE 5: Hands on Playing Piano
There will be review of playing scales and chords, as the students play the piano. They will receive their first piece of sheet music, ‘Ode to Joy’ by Beethoven. The class will then navigate through the sheet music to familiarize with the staff. COURSE 6: Sight Reading, Tempo With the student's sheet music, they will begin to apply their knowledge to the piano. There will be introduction to different types of rhythmic identifications, and what each type of note is in tempo, and how long it is to be played for. COURSE 7: Ode to Joy, Playing, Reading The students will work on their finger positioning on their musical piece, ‘Ode to Joy’, and continue to work on playing and sight reading the piece. Continual work on familiarizing with the grand staff, and how the notes are placed on the staff when sight reading. COURSE 8: Course Roundup & Review There will be a review of all that was covered in the comprehensive piano course. The students will have the chance to play their pieces, and sit one on one with Instructor Pleva for any questions and advice needed to take what they know and further knowledge of what they have learned in the classes. |
